They say some people go up to 4mg but divided into smaller doses. 25 mg. On this Psychology and Counseling site they report that some people start off with an even smaller dose of.
I would worry about doing this not under a doctor's supervision. This is definiy a question you want to ask your doctor. It seems you took a much higer dose than what was prescribed to you. It is possible to overdose on xanax with potentially very serious consequences.

So what is a safe amount to take, and how much is too much? Seems like just about ANY prescription drug these days is waay over-prescribed I would advise that you only take this medication as needed, and the dose prescribed.
